Our 2023 Year in Review
January 2, 2024
As we welcome in the new year, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the amazing progress we’ve made together. We have made unprecedented advances in single ventricle research – and we’re tremendously grateful to the scientists, clinicians, and organizations that share our mission and devote their work to this space.
In the past year, we expanded the single ventricle research community by supporting over 30 new research projects, while also creating opportunities to conduct multidisciplinary team science and developing new partnerships to expand the reach and impact of our work in this space.
Here is just a snapshot of our accomplishments in 2023:
- We awarded SVRF awards to 15 teams, Expansion Awards to 12 teams, and Catalyst to Independence Awards to 3 outstanding postdocs, totaling over a $12M investment in our scientific community.
- We launched our $13.2M Collaborative Sciences Award Program in partnership with the American Heart Association, funding research to advance our understanding of biological mechanisms that drive end-organ complications and co-morbidities of single ventricle heart disease.
- We made our first series of investments and grants to organizations developing novel devices and technologies that improve outcomes for single ventricle patients.
We are proud to look back at this past year and reflect on all we’ve accomplished together so far. We are excited to see the momentum grow in the field, with palpable energy and new discoveries made each day – and we’re looking forward to all that is yet to come.
